- AstraZeneca Switzerland supports green transportation and offsets 50% of emissions through myClimate carbon offset projects
5 June 2020 – AstraZeneca, a global, science-led biopharmaceutical company supports today's World Environment Day and is taking action to protect our environment as part of its 'Ambition Zero Carbon' strategy. AstraZeneca is pursuing an ambitious programme for zero carbon emissions from its global operations by 2025 and to ensure its entire value chain is carbon negative by 2030, bringing forward decarbonisation plans by more than a decade. AstraZeneca Switzerland is continually driving forward sustainability activities at its headquarters in Baar, in the canton of Zug.
Climate change is now a climate crisis, affecting public health, the environment and the sustainability of the global economy. Since 2015, AstraZeneca globally has reduced carbon emissions from its global operations by almost a third and our water consumption by almost a fifth. Now is the time to act even faster and redouble our efforts. In Switzerland, we are constantly working to reduce our ecological footprint by optimizing processes and implementing practical initiatives and projects.
AstraZeneca’s ‘Ambition Zero Carbon’ strategy
With its ‘Ambition Zero Carbon’ strategy, AstraZeneca aims to fulfil its science-based climate targets ahead of schedule. To achieve this, the company will double its energy productivity, use renewable energies to generate electricity and heat, and convert its entire fleet of company cars to electric vehicles five years ahead of schedule. AstraZeneca also commits to launching a next-generation inhaler to treat asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with near-zero global warming potential (GWP) propellants by 2025. The commitments AstraZeneca has made as part of its ‘Ambition Zero Carbon’ strategy will enable an accelerated reduction of the Company’s impact on the climate and inspire collaboration at a global level to effect policy change.”

Other sustainability projects and initiatives include:
