AstraZeneca Switzerland is convinced that innovation is crucial for the Swiss healthcare system. That is why the pharmaceutical company is now a member of the group sponsoring Avenir Suisse, the independent think tank which develops economically-based ideas for the future.
As a member of the Avenir Suisse support organisation, AstraZeneca supports innovative ideas in the healthcare sector while at the same time strengthening its commitment to a resilient Swiss healthcare system, among other things for more prevention, early diagnosis and treatment. The reason is that collaboration with the most varied partners is required to produce optimal solutions for patients.
The basis for a paradigm shift in the Swiss healthcare system
Avenir Suisse aims to provide studies and proposed solutions to help secure and increase the prosperity of the Swiss population. The healthcare system is one of its essential pillars. In one of its latest studies, Avenir Suisse discusses «rapid and affordable access to innovative medicinal products».
Increasing quality – optimising cost-effectiveness
The study «More added value in the healthcare system» discusses how patients’ treatment outcomes can be improved and how greater cost-effectiveness can be achieved while producing greater quality. The authors recommend new approaches and models of integrated healthcare.
Preparing public health systems for future shocks such as pandemics
The example of the PHSSR partnership (Partnership for Health System Sustainability & Resilience) clearly shows how even today AstraZeneca is promoting the paradigm shift in the Swiss healthcare system: the PHSSR aims to help ensure that public health systems are prepared for future shocks such as the COVID pandemic. In Switzerland, the Alliance has already published a comprehensive assessment report with 26 recommendations. Several projects are currently underway to guarantee the implementation of the report’s findings.
AstraZeneca and Avenir Suisse
AstraZeneca is working together with a variety of partners and stakeholders to improve the understanding of patient characteristics and the treatment pathways and outcomes for various diseases. That is why AstraZeneca Switzerland is also supporting the Avenir Suisse foundation.
Avenir Suisse works as an independent think-tank producing market economic, liberal and scientifically-based ideas for the future of Switzerland. The particular concerns of Avenir Suisse are to maintain an open dialogue with politicians and economists and to communicate research findings in an understandable, target group-oriented manner. These are concerns that AstraZeneca shares with the foundation to strengthen the position of Switzerland as a centre of research.
