The first digital platform «Olivia» is designed to offer comprehensive support in daily life to anyone affected by ovarian cancer, as well as their relatives and treatment teams - from diagnosis to treatment and long-term care.
The Ovarian Cancer Commitment (OCC) organisation launched «Olivia» for german speaking residents of Switzerland. «Olivia» is the first dedicated digital resource for everyone affected by ovarian cancer. This dynamic and interactive tool was unveiled to healthcare professionals during the Swiss Oncology and Hematology Congress held in Basel, Switzerland from the 22 to the 24th of November 2023.
Tools and support for each stage of ovarian cancer
The german version of the «Olivia» platform was co-created by Prof. Dr. med. Viola Heinzelmann-Schwarz and Prof. Dr. med. Christian Kurzeder, both from the University Hospital Basel, with the support of OCC members and AstraZeneca Switzerland. The platform aims to support women navigating an ovarian cancer diagnosis and to prepare and guide them through every stage of their ovarian cancer experience.
Answers to key questions for those affected
Prof. Dr. med. Viola Heinzelmann-Schwarz said: «We are delighted to have this valuable resource now available for patients in German language. As an oncologist, I see how difficult a diagnosis of ovarian cancer can be and how many of my patients struggle to find the support they need once they leave my clinic. As ESGO Council Member and co-initiator of this project, I am happy that our collaboration has resulted in a valuable resource for patients and their families. I am sure it will complement the service that healthcare teams can provide to their patients and will thus ensure that patients are able to get the vital support that they need throughout their experience.»
The platform provides information, guidance, testimonials and more
«Olivia» is a comprehensive tool that provides a single source of information for those diagnosed, being treated for, and living with ovarian cancer, as well as their families, support networks and healthcare teams. Resources provided by the platform include: an interactive ovarian cancer pathway; guidance on diagnosis and living with ovarian cancer; stories from women diagnosed with ovarian cancer; a directory of patient organisations; and a glossary of medical terms translated to layman’s language, to provide support to everyone, including caregivers.
Everyone’s experience with ovarian cancer is unique and evolves over time. “Olivia” is an interactive tool that allows users to access the content they need at the time they need it, enabling them to customise their learning experience.
