AstraZeneca has been based in the canton of Zug for 25 years. Based in Baar, over 450 employees are committed to making innovative therapies available to patients in Switzerland as quickly as possible and making a positive impact to the healthcare system. As one of the largest employers in the region and a good neighbour, the company offers attractive jobs.
To mark «25 years of AstraZeneca in Zug», Stefan Woxström, Senior Vice President, Europe & Canada (EUCAN) and Florian Saur, Managing Director of AstraZeneca Switzerland, met with Mrs Silvia Thalmann-Gut, Mayor of Zug, for a celebration with all the company's employees at the Baar site.
AstraZeneca has been active in Switzerland for almost 50 years. As part of the merger of Astra and Zeneca in 1999, the company moved from Zurich and Lucerne to the new joint site in Zug. From a handful of employees, the company has developed into one of the largest employers in the canton of Zug. In addition to the Swiss subsidiary and many of the company's European and global executives, Alexion, the AstraZeneca company specialising in rare diseases, has also been based in Baar for the past year.
Mrs Landammann Silvia Thalmann-Gut: «In recent years and decades, the canton of Zug has developed into a top location for international pharmaceutical companies. The companies based here make a significant contribution to the economic value of our region. AstraZeneca's long-standing presence is of great importance to us; the company offers attractive jobs for highly qualified employees. This increases Zug's overall attractiveness as a modern, dynamic economic region.»
Stefan Woxström: «It makes sense for us to be based in the canton of Zug, even with European and global managers. Our international employees not only find excellent working conditions here, but they also feel welcome. As the company continues to grow and the number of employees increases, it is important that we maintain good access to housing and school places. We are grateful for the good and constructive dialogue with the Zug government. »
Florian Saur: «As a good neighbor, our aim is to continue fostering strong partnerships with the local economy, politicians, and all stakeholders in the healthcare system, working together to deliver innovative solutions for patients throughout Switzerland. We are pursuing ambitious goals and aim to continue playing a central role in the Swiss healthcare sector. Zug is the perfect location for this.»
Many AstraZeneca employees live in the canton of Zug, where they are involved in local voluntary work and act as good neighbours. To mark its 25th anniversary in the canton of Zug, AstraZeneca is supporting the “KISS” association for neighbourhood assistance in the canton of Zug with a donation of CHF 2’500.
