With the «Share & Care Day», AstraZeneca and Alexion Switzerland reaffirm their commitment to society: employees from all areas left their usual workplace for a day to work together on social, ecological and charitable projects. For example, they supported environmental work in the forest, accompanied elderly or disabled people and helped to clean public spaces.
As one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in Switzerland, AstraZeneca is committed to improving the lives of patients with innovative therapies – as well as making a positive contribution to the healthcare system, society and the planet.
«The ‘Share & Care Day’ expresses this holistic approach», explains Florian Saur, Country President of AstraZeneca Switzerland, describing the basic idea behind the day. He himself was involved in caring for the local environment: «Our commitment raises awareness of the fact that every small contribution contributes to the whole. We were able to strengthen our team spirit on this day in order to give our best together every day.»
For Katrin Lipp, HR Manager at AstraZeneca Switzerland, a workplace culture based on trust, responsibility and participation is crucial for success as a company: «The ‘Share & Care Day’ makes this culture visible – by leaving our usual roles and giving something back to society, we take responsibility together and grow together as a community.»
In total, around 100 employees in German- and French-speaking Switzerland got involved in seven different projects. The range of activities was diverse and the following institutions were supported:
- Werkhof im Jöchler Baar: Control and removal of invasive plant species for a healthy environment around Baar Neufeld railway station
- Residential and work home Schmetterling Cham: Day out together with people with disabilities, including lunch and a game of bingo at Schluechthof Cham
- Ökihof Community Cleanup Baar: Cleaning green spaces, riverbanks and bus stops as well as maintaining playgrounds and flowerbeds
- Horgen forestry centre: Removal of neophytes to preserve the local ecosystem
- Baar care centre: Exchange and play with elderly and dementia residents
- Cham forest cooperative: Support for the renovation of nature playgrounds for a local daycare centre
- Samedi du Partage Lausanne: Volunteering for a food collection campaign for people in need
The project partners greatly appreciate the commitment of AstraZeneca and Alexion. «The exchange was enriching – it is extremely valuable when people from completely different professional fields gain an insight into our work and get actively involved. Such days promote mutual understanding and bring fresh perspectives in both directions. The support was of course also very welcome for us», says Florian Bruderer, Head of Plant Services at of the Baar municipality, with a smile.
With the «Share & Care Day», AstraZeneca is strengthening its understanding of social interaction and team spirit. For the company, which has been recognised several times as a «Great Place to Work», values such as responsibility, cohesion and commitment are an integral part of the work culture - and this also includes giving something back to society.
