Commitment to Sustainability in Switzerland

Our sustainability ambition: a holistic approach

Healthy people need a healthy planet. To contribute to this, we are working tirelessly to reduce CO2 emissions and waste – with the aim to be CO2-negative by 2045, meaning that we save more COthan we emit. In Switzerland, we are pursuing a holistic approach that takes our entire company ecosystem into account.

Mobility and Business Travel

We minimise business air travel by setting strict emission targets and follow «green meeting standards». This means that, among other things, we will plan fewer physical external meetings and focus on sustainable hospitality and travel options.

By the end of December 2024, we have transferred the entire fleet to electric vehicles.

Building

Our office building is supplied 100% by sustainable energy, including geothermal heat, energy from hydropower and solar panels.

To achieve effective decarbonization, it is essential to use exclusively renewable energy from local sources that are aligned with local energy consumption. For this reason, we have been a proud founding partner of the 24/7 Carbon-Free Coalition since 2022. Its goal is to achieve a carbon-free world by 2050.

Waste

In our office building, we separate waste at recycling stations for PET, plastic, Tetra Pak, compostable waste, aluminium, glass, paper and cardboard. The use of plastic drinking bottles has been reduced to a minimum.

Our aim is to reduce single-use plastic to less than 20% of the products we use. We also recycle plastic that is generated during meals, for example through take-away meals.

Most of our mailings to medical practitioners are sent digitally and we print on recycled paper wherever possible. As part of a pilot project, we are also testing electronic package inserts for one of our medicines.

Water

We are committed to the Water Stewardship Strategy and thus to the responsible use of water.

Therefore, we have launched initiatives across our entire group aimed at protecting this natural resource for our business areas, employees, local communities, and their ecosystems.

Nutrition

In our cafeteria, mostly vegetarian meals are offered and consumed. When purchasing snacks such as fruit, we make sure that we buy seasonal and regional products. Meat-free food is standard at events organised by us.
